Launch of IDMC/NRC Global Report on Internal Displacement 2018

WHAT: The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre of the Norwegian Refugee Council will launch the 2018 Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID 2018), presenting the latest data and trends of internal displacement by conflict and disasters worldwide. The scale of internal displacement in 2017 calls for a new approach to a phenomenon still blighting the lives of millions despite 20 years of efforts to resolve it.

WHEN: The report will launch globally on Wednesday 16 May 2018.

A media tour will take place with Alexandra Bilak and Jan Egeland on May 16 in London. Media outlets are invited to request studio interviews. A press briefing will also take place in Geneva on May 16. Embargoed versions of the report and press releases will be available from May 7.

SPOKESPEOPLE BIOS:

Alexandra Bilak is the director of the Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre since July 2015. She has over fifteen years’ experience working on evidence-based policy development, strategy, programme design and delivery. Between 2004 and 2014, she lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya, where she worked for various research institutes and international NGOs and managed research and advocacy programmes on conflict and forced migration.

Jan Egeland is the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council. He has over 30 years of experience from international work with humanitarian crises, situations, human rights and conflict resolution. He chairs the UN/ISSG Task Force on Humanitarian Access in Syria, as well as the Humanitarian Leadership Academy. Egeland also sits on the High-Level Panel on Humanitarian Cash Transfers and is part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Humanitarian Response.
