Tucson, AZ, Oct. 18, 2012--International Child Foundation, a licensed non-profit adoption agency, was awarded renewal of Hague Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation for the US Dept of State.  Hague accreditation signifies that the agency is among the few in the U.S. who have met the standards of practice set by the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption, an international treaty.

International Child Foundation is based in Tucson, AZ, and provides international and domestic adoption services.  The agency is one of only three U.S. adoption agencies approved to provide adoption services in Mexico.

Jackie Semar, Executive Director of the agency, stated that renewal of accreditation is proof-positive that adoption agencies can raise the bar for ethical adoption practices.  “By enacting this treaty the U.S. has taken a leadership role in preventing corruption and child trafficking.”

International adoption has declined over the past several years, from a high of over 22,000 adoptions in 2004- 2005 to 9,316 in 2011.  Contributing factors include suspension of adoption in several countries, the economic downturn and a higher threshold for adoptive parents in the form of required pre-adoption coursework.
