Strangvac, a vaccine against equine strangles, available for sale in Denmark
Stockholm, May 31, 2022 - Intervacc announces today that Strangvac, a vaccine against the highly contagious infectious disease equine strangles, has been released for sale in Denmark.
“Strangvac is now available and in stock at our logistics partner in Denmark. It can still take a few days before the vaccine is ready for orders at the local pharmacies. It feels important that we can now offer the vaccine on the Danish market and that we, together with veterinarians and horse owners, can start a new chapter in the fight against equine strangles", says Hege Drangsholt, product specialist and Intervacc’s country manager in Denmark.
“We have passed another milestone in the fight against equine strangles when Denmark now becomes the first country outside Sweden where Strangvac is available for sale. We look forward to continuing the launch of Strangvac in Europe”, comments Andreas Andersson, Chief Executive Officer of Intervacc.
”It feels great to launch the vaccine in yet another of the Nordic countries. Our product specialist and country manager, Hege Drangsholt has extensive experience in the industry and a great passion for horses. We look forward to meeting veterinarians and horse owners during the WC in Herning in August, as part of our launch plan”, says Emma Hartman, global product manager Strangvac.

About equine strangles
Equine strangles, caused by Streptococcus equi, is the most frequently diagnosed infectious disease of horses, and affects horses all over the world with one exception Iceland where the import of horses is prohibited. Streptococcus equi invades the lymph nodes of head and neck, causing them to swell and form abscesses that can literally strangle, in around 2% of cases, the horse to death. Some of the horses that recover from strangles remain persistently infected. These apparently healthy animals shed bacteria into the environment and spread the disease to other horses with which they come into contact.
