ISG Harmonizes With NWCH In Liverpool

ISG has been awarded a £740K contract to refurbish former Liverpool City Council offices and create a new Academy as part of the North West Construction Hub framework.

Harmonize Academy will provide an inclusive and progressive school environment for students who have failed to thrive in mainstream education. Occupying a former school, which was then converted to house council offices and the Fairfield Centre community centre, ISG will transform the office element of the two-storey building to create the new Academy. The existing community centre will remain and continue to be fully operational throughout the duration of the project.

The programme has been designed to enable the school to open to a new in-take of 48 students in September 2013 and up to 104 by 2015, but also includes a sectional completion for handover of four completed classrooms by mid-April. At this point, students already enrolled at Harmonize Academy will move across from current temporary premises to the new building.

In addition to a general upgrade of the accommodation, including redecoration, improved ventilation systems and new toilet cubicles, ISG will install a new commercial kitchen, fire escape staircase and lift. The original caretaker’s accommodation, which forms part of the main school building, will also be remodelled to create a dance studio and music recording facility.
