ISG Invites Applicants For Sainsbury's Purley Way Store Challenge

Croydon’s community groups and local charities could be looking forward to a bumper start to the New Year thanks to a Store Challenge being launched by Sainsbury’s and ISG.

The contractor is currently carrying out a £10 million refurbishment project at the Sainsbury’s store on Purley Way, adding an extension to both the side and the front of the store that will provide a new first floor sales area and customer cafe. As a way of supporting the local community and providing funds for good causes, Sainsbury’s store manager Cyrus Dana and the ISG project team have come together to launch a charitable initiative that will offer £3,000 for local community groups, projects, amateur sports teams or charities, along with a number of other ‘DIY Angel’ prizes.

Local groups are being invited to nominate their group, team or charity for the Store Challenge which will involve applicants making a Dragon’s Den-style presentation to a panel of judges, including representatives from both Sainsbury’s and ISG, as well as local dignitaries. The winners will secure a first prize of £1,000, with two runners up being awarded £500 each and five third prizes of £200 also up for grabs. For those that don’t scoop the cash prizes there will still be the possibility of winning a DIY Angel prize, which will see ISG’s subcontractors providing free labour and expertise for jobs such as decorating or laying new flooring.

Andy Chambers, ISG’s Sainsbury’s account manager, commented: “A major store refurbishment like the Sainsbury’s Purley Way scheme brings significant commercial benefits to the community and improves facilities for local people. Sainsbury’s and ISG believe that it’s also important to give something back to the local community that has been so patient during the improvements to the store, and we believe this will be a fun way of giving local good causes an opportunity to access some additional funding, while sharing their passion about their group, team or charity.”

Nomination forms for the Store Challenge will be available inside the Sainsbury’s store and will require the name of the community group, team or charity and a 200 word summary about what they do and why they deserve to win. The closing date for nominations is 29th February 2012. Completed entries can be handed in at the store or emailed to hrm.purleyway@sainsburys.co.uk. Entrants will be invited to make their presentations to the judging panel at a special event in March.
