ISG has won two army living accommodation refurbishment projects with a total value of £9.7 million as part of its ongoing involvement with the MoD’s strategically important 35-year PFI infrastructure contract, Project Allenby/Connaught, being delivered by Aspire Defence.

Located at the Lille Barracks in Aldershot and Battlesbury Barracks in Warminster, the two projects involve the refurbishment of existing accommodation to provide en-suite facilities for all rooms and a comprehensive upgrade in the standard of accommodation and facilities throughout both barracks.

The Lille Barracks project involves four junior ranks living accommodation buildings, all within the high security wire. The four buildings will be refurbished in a rolling programme with the other three remaining fully-occupied while each one is upgraded. The scheme is due for completion in March 2014.

Originally constructed in the 1990s and currently arranged in clusters of four bedrooms with no en-suite facilities, each building will be re-configured into three wings over three storeys. Each wing will comprise seven en-suite bedrooms per floor with a shared bathroom, shared kitchen and common room per seven-bedroom cluster. The refurbishment will also include provision of a new baggage store, utility room and drying room.

The Battlesbury Barracks project involves upgrading of existing senior ranks accommodation to provide en-suite living quarters with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Originally built in the 1950s with a 1990s extension, the building will be vacated for the 38-week programme, which began in December and is due for completion in September 2012. The programme includes conversion of existing bedrooms to en-suite rooms, installation of new mechanical and electrical services, redecoration, new flooring, refurbishment of the bar area and construction of disabled access ramps.

ISG’s John Rawlinson, managing director - South West, commented: “The competitive nature of the framework is instrumental in driving out waste and enhancing efficiencies, and closely linked to contractor performance, so we are delighted to be able to announce further work secured via this procurement route.”
