ISG Makes A Splash In Ramsgate
ISG has been awarded a £3.5 million contract by Alliance Leisure to transform Ramsgate’s ‘dry’ Sports Centre into a much larger facility through the addition of two swimming pools, a health suite and spa.
The project is the latest in a series of Alliance Leisure schemes delivered by ISG, which include the £5.6 million refurbishment of Deeside Leisure Centre in North Wales and the £1.9 million project to add ten pin bowling to the facilities at Flint Pavilion. This latest contract will see the construction of a single-storey extension to the existing building in Ramsgate to accommodate the new facilities, as well as carrying out a full refurbishment of the centre.
The 52-week programme will take place in a live environment, with business as usual operation of the existing leisure centre while the extension is built and fitted out. The steel frame and masonry extension will feature a curved roof to complement the architectural context of the original building and ISG will create a 25m pool along with a learner pool and associated ‘wet’ changing facilities. The extension will also accommodate the new spa and health suite facilities, while the existing ‘dry’ change and fitness suite will be fully refurbished.
The project involves a wide-ranging upgrade to the leisure centre’s existing mechanical and electrical services, with the current gas-based air conditioning system replaced by more energy efficient air conditioning and air handling units. ISG will also install intelligent lighting technology and improve the thermal performance of the building to improve energy efficiency and minimise running costs.
