ISG employee, Sean O’Keefe, a managing surveyor from the contractor’s Birmingham office, will be running as a Torchbearer in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Sean was nominated through the Lloyds TSB campaign and secured this honour due to his tireless fundraising efforts for a range of charitable causes.

Sean will be taking part in the Coventry leg of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and is expecting a strong turn out from family, friends and work colleagues to cheer him on as plays his part carrying the Olympic Flame through the city.

The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay will start at Land’s End, Cornwall on the morning of 19 May 2012. On leaving Land’s End, the Olympic Flame will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals their moment to shine as the Olympic Flame comes to a place near them. The Olympic Flame will arrive at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012 for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Sean was nominated following decades of fundraising endeavours that started when his career took him to Africa in the mid-1990s. Working alongside colleagues, many of whom came from deprived areas of Cape Town, spurred Sean on to take an active role in fundraising efforts to provide shelters for homeless children in the city. He also worked closely with Aids awareness charities in Africa during this period.

Returning to the UK, Sean continues to give freely of his time and energy to support a range of cancer charities, undertaking numerous sponsored road racing events and raising thousands of pounds for worthy causes. In July he will take part in the City of Birmingham Triathlon to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, putting his body to the test with a 1,500m open water swim, 40km cycle ride and 10km run.

Sean commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime experience. The Torch Relay marks the final countdown to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games and it’s a real honour to be carrying the Olympic Flame as part of its journey around the UK.”

David Lawther, ISG’s Chief Executive, added: “I’m delighted that Sean’s outstanding contribution to charitable causes has been recognised with his participation in such a unique and memorable event. Sean, alongside many of his ISG colleagues across the country, has played a vital role in the delivery of the London 2012 Olympic Games and it’s great that, alongside thousands of UK citizens, he will also now play a part in the exciting build up to the games.”

Sean was nominated through Lloyds TSB, the Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
