ISG Secures £10 Million Cambridge Community Centre
ISG has secured a circa £10 million project for a range of stakeholders including Cambridge City Council, Cambridge County Council, and housing and health partners, to build a multi-use community facility at the new Clay Farm development, close to the village of Trumpington. Positioned at the heart of Cambridge’s Southern Fringe growth area, the centre will ultimately serve a community of around 4,000 homes, with a new secondary school and two primary schools.
The five-storey, mixed-use building will provide a comprehensive range of public services for local residents, including a medical centre, library, community rooms and 20 flats. The community facility incorporates high specification building materials, with roof-mounted photo voltaic cells to generate electricity and a green roof area to absorb CO2 and reduce the effects of surface run off.
At ground floor level of the concrete frame structure, ISG will create a spacious and light reception area, leading into the lower level of the two-storey library, a café and social space. A large double-height multi-use hall and a smaller community room are also located on this level, along with offices and a secure internal bicycle storage area.
Library facilities continue on the building’s first floor, with a balconied area providing flexible space, alongside meeting rooms and a touchdown area for non-office based public service staff. The second floor medical centre incorporates nine consulting rooms and a minor operations treatment centre. Facilities also include consulting space, treatment rooms, a series of meeting rooms and specialist medical library. The upper two levels provide accommodation for 20 affordable flats, in one and two bed configurations – each with an external balcony. The flats will be managed by major housing association bpha.
