ISG has secured its latest project with the Co-operative Group, taking a £600K scheme to deliver a brand new store for the UK’s fifth largest food retailer in the scenic Highland village of Ballachulish.

The Co-operative Group’s ambitious UK wide store expansion programme is generating increasing opportunities for ISG within Scotland, and this latest win closely follows the contractor’s successful completion of a £250K project to extend capacity at the existing Strathblane Co-op outlet.

Work has now commenced on the 16-week fast-track project at Ballachulish to create a new 4,305 sq ft Co-op store on the site of the Old Railway Station, part of a line built to carry slate away from Ballachulish quarries to Connel Ferry. The quarry closed in 1955 and the railway line ceased operation in 1965. The new Co-op store will be constructed using a steel-frame structure and incorporates a 10 space customer car park and will include an attractive external landscaping scheme.

Alan McCarthy-Wyper, managing director of ISG’s construction business, commented: “Forging strong customer relationships is central to the success of our business and repeat opportunities represent a key indicator that we are performing to expectations and delivering on our promises. The Co-operative Group is a major employer, with over 2,800 stores across the UK and impressive expansion plans, so it is important that we leverage our considerable expertise as the UK’s number one retail contractor and focus on the quality and consistency of our delivery solutions to further strengthen our existing relationship.”
