ISG has secured a contract to renovate 9 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, the new home of SCOBAN Plc, the planned private bank.

Work is now underway on the £1 million project following the signing of a 10-year lease on the property, which forms part of The Charlotte Square Collection.

The 23-week programme will see ISG refurbish and reconfigure all interior elements, conserving the internal listed features of the six-floor Georgian townhouse to create a high quality office designed for SCOBAN’s business needs. The former home of inventor and surgeon, James Syme, will also undergo exterior improvements including the overhauling of all sash and case windows.

This is one of nineteen properties that make up The Charlotte Square Collection.

ISG’s Andy Mallice, managing director - Scotland, said: “This prestigious project plays to our strengths of sensitively delivering high quality commercial office accommodation within an architecturally protected context. The location and heritage of the Charlotte Square address, coupled with the quality and outstanding specification of the office fit out, will prove to be an ideal location for this private bank.”

The Charlotte Square Collection is managed by Corran Properties. As well as number 9, a further six townhouses and subsidiary properties on the south side of the Square are being redeveloped to create high-quality office accommodation, due for completion in August.

Nick Ball, Director of Corran Properties said: “ISG has an excellent reputation of refurbishing listed buildings of the same scale and importance as 9 Charlotte Square. The stunning townhouse will be developed into modern, high-quality office accommodation to meet SCOBAN’s needs.”

SCOBAN, set up by former Adam & Co Chairman, Ray Entwistle, is currently occupying 22 Charlotte Square as a temporary head office during the refurbishment programme. It will relocate to 9 Charlotte Square, a 5,624 sq. ft. office, on completion of the works, estimated for July.

Ray Entwistle, Chairman of SCOBAN Plc, said: “Establishing our head office at 9 Charlotte Square is an important step for SCOBAN. Our plans are progressing well and we look forward to building a very successful business from this impressive building.”

Cuthbert White and Cushman Wakefield are the agents for The Charlotte Square Collection.
