ISG has been confirmed as the sole appointee to a four year capital build framework with Cleveland Fire Authority, valued at over £22 million. The framework encompasses the construction of four new local fire stations and a new headquarters for the Fire Authority in Hartlepool.

The framework procurement route was selected by Cleveland Fire Authority as the most efficient and cost effective solution for its short to medium term capital works requirements, including the redevelopment of four existing fire stations in Middlesbrough, Headland, Thornaby and Grangetown. The first of the projects commences on site in September, when staff from the existing Middlesbrough station temporarily relocate to enable ISG to demolish the building and construct a modern replacement.

The new four-bay Middlesbrough fire station will host a range of important community facilities including public meeting space and recreational amenities in the form of a high climbing wall installed on the existing training tower. Towards the middle of next year, ISG is expected to begin work on the new Hartlepool headquarters building, which will become the Authority’s administrative home and also house a major development and training centre, as well as a large vehicle workshop facility.

The framework is set to become a model for transparent project delivery as ISG will utilise the Fire Authority’s own web-based procurement system to engage the supply chain. Working closely with the client’s agent and cost consultant, Bradshaw, Gas & Hope, ISG will drive the design and construction across the capital works programme, identifying and maximising efficiencies through early engagement and fully integrated and collaborative project teams.

Alan McCarthy-Wyper, managing director – Construction, commented: “This key regional capital works framework is an important win for ISG and further strengthens our credentials within the blue light sector. Frameworks offer a highly efficient procurement route for public sector clients, bringing projects to site quicker and more cost effectively, whilst fostering greater delivery team integration and supporting innovation. We are delighted to be playing a major role in modernising the property assets and operational capability of the Cleveland Fire Authority for future generations.”

ISG adds the Cleveland Fire Authority Capital Build Framework to a growing list of public sector partnering agreements, which includes the influential North West Construction Hub, YORbuild, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Strategic Alliance Agreement Framework for Construction and the Construction Framework South West.
