ISG To Deliver Innovative Taunton Oncology Facility

ISG has secured a fast-track design & build refurbishment project at the Beacon Centre, a specialist cancer treatment unit at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset.

Originally opened in 2009, the Beacon Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that treats around 1200 patients each year. ISG’s refurbishment programme will see the contractor convert one of the existing four-bay wards into a ‘mould room’ where patients will be measured for prosthetics, which will then be manufactured within the unit.

The new facilities will combine the very latest technology with a workshop environment, including an ‘impression room’, which will house laser and x-ray imaging equipment for taking precise patient measurements. Existing en-suite welfare facilities will be retained and ISG will also construct a new changing area for patients.

The specialist scope of works also includes alterations to the existing bed head units and medical gases systems, along with the installation of sophisticated ventilation, extraction and air filtering systems. Due for completion at the end of April, the project builds on ISG’s considerable experience in the healthcare sector.
