Following ISG’s successful delivery of an extensive over cladding project for Glasgow Housing Association (GHA), the contractor has now been awarded a £4.8 million scheme by Southside Housing Association in Glasgow.

The social housing provider has appointed ISG to undertake over-cladding works to 219 properties contained within three 10-storey blocks of flats at 20-220 Moss Heights, in Cardonald. Moss Heights was the first high rise development to be built in Glasgow in 1953 and currently houses over 1,000 residents.

The 35-week contract focuses on both enhancing the overall thermal performance of the accommodation blocks, and improving their aesthetic appearance, through the installation of a cladding system to the exterior façade. Curtain walling will also be installed across the open balcony areas to provide residents with two new sun rooms, creating additional weatherproof space within each flat. The programme includes extensive testing of the concrete frame structures and general exterior repairs to the façade, external walls, fences and footpaths. New floodlighting and feature lighting will be installed as a security measure and to enhance the immediate environment.

Operating across a busy live environment, ISG has developed a tailored programme of works to minimise the potential impact on tenants during the fast-track improvement project. ISG’s customer care team will play a key role in co-ordinating newsletters and scheduling tenant surgeries, to ensure that residents are kept fully appraised of on-going works and important developments during the project.

ISG’s Andy Mallice, managing director - Scotland, commented: “ISG continues to establish a well-deserved reputation for successfully delivering complex, multi-storey façade improvement projects with major UK housing association providers. The ability to deliver a fast-track programme, whilst minimising disruption to tenants, requires a skilled approach. Close tenant liaison is an essential part of this process, and we work hard to effectively communicate important information to our neighbours via multiple channels to ensure the greatest possible outreach.”

The strength and depth of ISG’s social housing expertise continues to prove an important factor in securing partnering frameworks with leading providers, including LINK, Home Scotland and Your Homes, the Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) responsible for managing council homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council.

ISG has successfully completed the first phase of a major £45 million regeneration scheme at Mill O’Mains in Dundee for Home Scotland, for which ISG achieved a prestigious Silver Considerate Constructors Scheme award, as well as the recent scheme for GHA, which included the refurbishment of 13 multi-storey blocks across Glasgow.
