ISG Wins Prestigious Health & Safety Excellence Award

ISG has won a Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council for its commitment to the outstanding management of health and safety risks at its major data center project in Northern Europe. ISG is one of just 61 organisations worldwide to achieve this prestigious benchmark of occupational health and safety excellence.

In order to compete for the Sword of Honour, organisations first had to achieve the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s health and safety management audit scheme in the period August 2014 – July 2015. They also had to demonstrate to an independent panel of experts their excellence in health and safety management throughout every tier of the business.

Continuous improvement forms a key element of the Sword of Honour judging criteria and ISG demonstrated a range of best practice initiatives, from a multi-disciplinary Safety Leadership Team, incorporating representatives from all project stakeholders, to the mandatory use of hard hats with proximity sensors to warn operatives when heavy plant is nearby. ISG has also proved instrumental in the introduction of non-powered Pecolift and Ecolift low level access towers within the Northern European market – with over 200 units deployed on this one site alone.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Our warmest congratulations to 61 of our member organisations who have won the Sword of Honour. These awards recognise and celebrate the excellence of the winning organisations and their employees in managing health, safety and environmental risks.

“All of the Sword winning organisations share a commitment and resolve to achieving the highest standards of health and safety management and are partners in helping achieve our vision that no one should be injured or made ill at work.”

Paul Cossell, managing director of ISG’s Fit Out and Engineering Services business, commented: “To achieve ISG’s first Sword of Honour award for a project based outside of the UK is an outstanding achievement and testament to our ability to export best practice and the highest possible standards for our customers at a global level. Eliminating risk from the construction process is an achievable goal and our culture of constantly challenging the status-quo enables us to quickly adopt the most innovative solutions, which often bring additional efficiency benefits to our projects – a catalyst that drives our business forward.”
