ISG has taken its second project at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, securing a £1.2 million scheme at the University of Dundee’s prestigious School of Medicine, adding to its on-going £4.1 million extension and refurbishment contract at the hospital.

The project represents the latest phase in an £11 million programme to upgrade facilities at one of the UK’s top performing medical schools, and sees ISG comprehensively refurbishing the level 7 lecture theatre, carrying out structural alterations to the building and upgrading the existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

The scheme builds upon ISG’s existing relationship with the University of Dundee and the Ninewells Hospital, with the contractor currently on site carrying out refurbishment work to teaching, administration and library accommodation, following the recent completion of an extension to the North side of the building, which provides additional teaching space for the School of Medicine.

Running concurrently with the existing works, this new project will include the full strip out of the 375 seat lecture and the reconfiguration of space to remodel the seating layout, the installation of a new feature staircase and the delivery of a high specification fit out to the new teaching accommodation.

Lecture Theatre 1 (LT1) is surrounded by laboratories, teaching and operating theatre facilities, and to maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure staff within ‘live’ areas of the hospital are unaffected by the works, ISG has developed a robust programme of works to minimise disruption to hospital staff and patients over the course of the project.

ISG’s Andy Mallice, managing director - Scotland, commented: “Securing a further phase of work with the University of Dundee at Ninewells Hospital is an excellent result for the business and underlines our ability to forge collaborative and hard working relationships with key regional clients. As an organisation, we always look to utilise the skills and expertise of the local supply chain and will continue this commitment to help secure job opportunities for subcontractors and trade specialists in Dundee.”

The University teaching Dean of Medicine, Professor Gary Mires, commented: “We look forward to ISG completing the refurbishment of LT1 along with the other works that have already been completed and extremely well received by the medical students.”
