Rare Opportunity for Students as ISG Site Participates in National Open Doors Weekend

ISG is giving young people interested in construction the opportunity to take an exclusive tour around the site of the £66+ million Exhibition Centre Liverpool and Pullman Liverpool Hotel development, as part of the national Open Doors Weekend 2015 initiative. On March the 6th and 7th, ISG will be granting special access behind the site hoardings to people who have signed up to take a tour of one of the region’s most high profile construction projects.

The Open Doors Weekend is an industry campaign to raise awareness of the significant role that construction plays across society, highlighting the diverse and exciting range of career opportunities the industry has to offer and its importance to both national and regional economies. The Open Doors Weekend is the result of a partnership of four leading industry bodies, the UK Construction Group (UKCG), CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and over 75 sites across England, Scotland and Wales are taking part this year.

Exhibition Centre Liverpool will be open from September for public and trade events, with the construction of the Pullman Liverpool Hotel completing later this year and bookings being taken from January 2016. Exhibition Centre Liverpool will more than double the existing 7,125 sq m capacity at ACC Liverpool, currently home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, to 15,225 sq m of flexible exhibition space. It will link to the existing arena and convention centre, making the building the only purpose-built arena, convention and exhibition centre in Europe.

Designed by architects Denton Corker Marshall, Exhibition Centre Liverpool features a glazed atrium which offers stunning vistas looking out across the River Mersey and the city’s UNESCO World Heritage site. The integrated 216 room four star upscale hotel features an off-set, rectangular ‘tube’ design, which includes extensive glazing and a spacious double height atrium at its lower levels.

Only those individuals who have pre-booked a tour will be permitted access to the exclusive viewing of the site, and with strong regional interest in the project and strictly limited places available on each tour, ISG is urging those interested to visit the Open Doors website at http://www.opendoorsweekend.co.uk/site/176 and sign up promptly to avoid disappointment.

Stephen Ratcliffe, Director of UKCG, commented: “Construction is undergoing rapid change and needs to develop a skilled, diverse workforce to meet these challenges and maintain its position as one of this country’s most dynamic, creative and important industries. Nowadays, construction is more about careers than jobs and the expected increase in demand for management roles in the next few years means that we need quality talent entering the industry now to fill these future positions.”

Danny Murray, ISG’s Northern regional managing director, added: “The UK possesses a world-class construction industry and Open Doors enables us to showcase the real excellence and innovation of this essential sector. This rare opportunity to go behind the site hoardings of one of Liverpool’s largest projects is not to be missed and provides those lucky few visitors with a unique perspective on how modern construction schemes are delivered.”
