International forest products company, Weyerhaeuser, has extended the use of Lumin plywood, part of its recently launched competitive, certified and sustainable wood products range, by achieving CE certification for interior roofing and flooring applications. Manufactured at Weyerhaeuser’s state-of-the-art mill in Uruguay, the complete Lumin plywood range is already fully CE2+ (EN 636-3 S) certified for exterior structural use. Recent initial type testing to EN 1195 and EN 12871 has now shown the Lumin 18mm eucalyptus faced panel to be suited to flooring and roofing applications in both SC1 and SC2. Denoted as fit for Category A and Category H uses, the Lumin panel can now be used with residential floors as well as accessible and non-accessible roofs, where edges are supported or the product is tongue and grooved (T&G). FSC certified and produced using trees from responsibly managed plantations; the environmental credentials of Lumin products are expected to make it a favourable choice with both private residential and affordable housing developers. As a highly sustainable plywood product, Lumin will support developers in achieving additional credits under the building materials category of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Commenting on Weyerhaeuser’s latest CE certification, Bob Foster of BM TRADA, said: “Weyerhaeuser displays a genuine commitment to innovation and improvement – with sustainability at the heart of this. By committing to continued investment in its Uruguay operations, Weyerhaeuser is ensuring the market benefits from highly sustainable products that meet only the highest international standards.” Lumin plywood is supplied in a choice of eucalyptus or pine faced plywood and 14 different grades, including tropical replacement grade panels. The broad span of grades makes Lumin plywood suited to most applications, particularly residential structural and non-structural requirements, concrete forming, furniture, cabinet, millwork and flooring. John Guerin, European commercial director for Weyerhaeuser, concludes: “We’ve worked hard to develop a plywood range which has proven environmental credentials and also has sustainable supply guaranteed. With this firmly in place, we are now focusing efforts on achieving additional international certifications for Lumin products, so more areas of the market can benefit from this competitive, certified and sustainable range.” For an up-to-date list of Lumin plywood stockists, please contact Weyerhaeuser on: +32 (0)10 68 64 25.
