CARLSBAD, Calif. – May 30, 2013 – 10 countries. 500 schools. 50,000 Kids. These are just a few of the preliminary results from Kids Get Fit, a global initiative to prevent childhood obesity in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in May.

Jazzercise, Inc. challenged its family of 7,800 franchisees to host free Kids Get Fit activities at schools in their communities to spread the message that fitness can and should be fun.  Jazzercise instructors rose to the challenge. Here are a few of the stats so far:

  • 10…number of countries that hosted Kids Get Fit events
  • 31…days to get kids fit for National Physical Fitness and Sports Month
  • 250…Jazzercise instructors who taught Kids Get Fit events
  • 500…schools that allowed Jazzercise instructors to get students moving
  • 50,000…kids who experienced the joy of dance through Kids Get Fit

And the results are still coming in. But the numbers don’t describe the pure joy these children experienced through dance and movement. This Kids Get Fit Video showcases two Kids Get Fit events at Abby Reinke Elementary School in Temecula, Calif. on May 20 and Jefferson Elementary School in Carlsbad, Calif. on May 28.

Kids Get Fit is a free community outreach program designed to help school districts promote kids’ fitness as a way of life. It was established as a part of the Junior Jazzercise program to teach children the importance of establishing healthy habits at an early age that last a lifetime.

“In order to ensure healthy futures for our children, we all have to do our part to promote kids fitness in our communities,” said Jazzercise Founder & CEO Judi Sheppard Missett. “Jazzercise has been getting kids fit for more than 20 years through its Junior Jazzercise/Kids Get Fit program and as childhood obesity numbers continue to climb, it is even more essential today.”

These interactive Kids Get Fit events, taught by certified Jazzercise instructors, teach children that being healthy and fit can be fun through movement, games and activities, and discussion about basic nutrition. Children can channel their “inner Beiber” by learning easy-to-follow, current dance fitness steps set to the music of today’s popular artists.
