Carmen Systems and Aeroméxico take airline planning into a new era The ability to synchronize the planning of aircraft and crew, a new technology from Carmen Systems, has helped Aeroméxico cut costs and increase stability. About 40% of all delays are caused by late incoming aircraft and crew. This number could be significantly reduced with more synchronized planning of crew and aircraft. "At Aeroméxico we have always suspected that the potential for integration is great, but the technology to realize our ideas has not been available," says José Luis Dominguez, Production Planning VP. "With the taking of Carmen Tail Assignment into production, together with Carmen's technology for integration, we now have the opportunity to synchronize the planning of crew and aircraft. We are also able to remove most of the critical connections when crew change aircraft and we can do this with reduced crew costs. It is really a win-win situation." With Carmen Tail Assignment, Carmen Systems enters the airline fleet planning segment. The system provides the optimal allocation of aircraft to flights, taking into account main-tenance and other aircraft-specific requirements. Through the latest developments in Carmen Systems' crew planning products, fully integrated crew and aircraft planning is now possible. "I am proud of the technical advances being made by our outstanding optimization and integration team," says Carmen's President and CEO, Per Norén. "Aeroméxico's management's vision and their proven change strategy have shown that integrated planning is not just a dream; it can be realized. By integrating crew and aircraft planning we estimate that the airline industry could save an additional half a billion dollars per year on crew costs alone, and do this while improving service for their passengers. We are convinced that this is just the first step towards totally integrated planning and operation at airlines."
