Carmen Systems signs breakthrough agreement with Port of Göteborg
The Port of Göteborg AB, the largest port in Scandinavia, has signed an agreement with Carmen Systems AB for an optimization application to schedule the terminal staff and equipment. With this solution, the Port of Göteborg will be able to handle increased volumes of freight without having to increase the number of staff.
The three-year agreement between the Swedish resource optimization company Carmen Systems AB and the Ro/ro Terminal at the Port of Göteborg, states that Carmen will create a solution application to schedule the 220 terminal staff and equipment at the port in Göteborg, Sweden. The agreement is worth approx. SEK 4 million (€ 425,000). This delivery represents the first step in a three-stage implementation that is expected to comprise: 1. Centralized planning of staff and equipment plus automation of planning process 2. Introduction of optimization as well as integration with existing systems 3. Personnel planning - Preferential bidding system and Crew Rostering The globalization of the marketplace has increased competitive pressures within the shipping industry, and software, alongside with process change solutions that increase operations efficiency, are key investments. “Through delivery of this solution, the Port of Göteborg expect to be able to handle increased volumes of freight without increasing the number of staff required, and at the same time provide a higher service level to our customers”, says Magnus Kårestedt, CEO for the Port of Göteborg AB. “This will significantly strengthen our competitiveness in the region of northern Europe, and help us increase the frequency of services and a greater flow of goods through the port.
