First apartments to receive an environmental product declaration - JM commended for best ecological new construction The City of Stockholm and the Stockholm Association of Building Contractors have named the Majroparken tenant-owner association in Gubbängen outside Stockholm as "Best ecological new construction." JM AB planned and built the area with a focus on the ecological cycle. According to the jury's citation the area is best within four areas - energy, indoor environment, construction and management. It is also the first housing area to offer the consumer apartments with an environmental product declaration which have been examined by doctors, chemists and other experts. Majroparken in Gubbängen in south Stockholm is a recently completed housing area with 210 apartments which were planned with a focus on a healthier and more eco-compliant construction with an eco-cycle approach. It is also the first housing area to offer consumers apartments with an environmental product declaration where all the materials used are specified in a similar way as for food. The outdoor environment has also been planned with a high degree of ecological consideration.. "The aim with Majroparken was to build a housing area where the environmental aspects are suitable for everyone not just people with a special interest in them. Appropriate parts of this project can provide guidelines for our future eco-compliant housing production," says, Johnny Kellner, planning and environmental manager, JM Residential, Stockholm. Working methods and activities which JM has used in Majroparken include waste sorting as standard, energy-efficient installations, demand- controlled ventilation, and building materials which have been examined by doctors, chemists and other experts. Optional extras include allotments and earth cellars. "Best ecological new construction" is a competition organised by the City of Stockholm and the Stockholm Association of Building Contractors. Four areas are assessed: construction and materials, energy, indoor environment, and management and use.
