JM, in cooperation with TK Development, has signed a joint cooperation agreement with SKF to develop SKF’s “Nya Kulan” factory grounds in the Gamlestaden neighborhood of Göteborg. The old plants with their century old history will include a mix of commercial, cultural and residential.

“The old factory buildings, with their period charm, will largely be preserved and renovated,” says Anders Lundberg. “In addition to the new construction along the Säveån river, we’ll also build housing in and above the existing buildings.”

JM is responsible for construction of residential units and TK Development for the remaining elements of the area. All told, the area is expected to make room for over 45,000 m2 of commercial premises and about 300 residential units.

Until now, only SKF employees have had access to the Gamlestaden 2:9 property, but this project will open the area and integrate it with the neighborhood.

The area includes all of SKF’s factories along Artillerigatan north of Säveån. The plan has been formulated and approved. Detailed planning will begin during the autumn. Occupancy is expected in 2012 at the earliest.
