Hull based family business, the John Good Group, is set to hold a Charity Dinner and Auction, with all proceeds going to the Matthew Good Foundation. The event will be held on 18th May 2011, at Trinity Park in Ipswich.

Guests at the event will enjoy a drinks reception, four-course dinner and acharity auction, along with musical entertainment from The Inflatables. Current auction prizes include a week’s accommodation in France, and Joe Hart’s signed goalkeeping gloves.

The Matthew Good Foundation is a charitable trust set up by the John Good Group, following the tragic death of former managing director, Matthew Good. Matthew died aged just 32 in June 2011, whilst running the Humber Bridge Half Marathon for charity.

Tim Good, Matthew’s brother and trustee of the foundation, said:

“Matt felt very strongly that it was important for family businesses to raise money for charity. Together, we had started setting up a charitable trust at the start of 2011, and following his death, it was only right to name it after him.

“Since the launch, the foundation has gone from strength to strength, and staff members from across the group have committed to fundraising projects. Events planned for this year include a Three Peak’s Challenge and a millionaire’s evening, and Chris Price has already committed to running 32 half marathons in 2012, one for each year of Matt’s life.

“The initial focus of the trust is to raise funds for research and education into premature deaths in young athletes. We are already making real progress, sharing knowledge with sporting institutes in the US, and speaking with UK universities about a possible dedicated PHD study. Over the next few years, we hope to make some serious breakthroughs that will save lives.”

The John Good Group has committed to providing a percentage of its yearly profits to the Matthew Good Foundation. In addition to research into the conditions that caused Matthew’s death, the foundation also provides sponsorship and financial support to employees working within the John Good group who are taking part in other charitable events.
