John Woods Nurseries launches Hydrangea Endless Summer® BloomStar
John Woods Nurseries, the award-winning commercial grower and supplier of plants to retailers across the UK, has launched the Hydrangea Endless Summer® BloomStar.
The latest addition to the Endless Summer® collection of reblooming hydrangeas, BloomStar produces blooms up to 12cm across in pink, purple or blue depending on the soil’s PH. BloomStar’s glossy dark green leaves are characterised by red petioles and red veins, making the plant stand out even before the flowers open. Supplied in a 5 litre pot, BloomStar reaches a height and spread of 100 x 150cm. Deliveries will begin in 2014. Suggested retail price is £19.99
BloomStar will be on display this summer on the John Woods Nurseries stands at the HTA National Plant Show at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry on 25/26 June and RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show from 9 – 14 July 2013.
Developed and launched in the US by Dr. Michael Dirr; this prolific mophead flowers repeatedly throughout the summer until the first frosts of autumn.
Other plants that will feature prominently on the John Woods Nurseries display at HTA Plant Show will include:
- Exochorda ‘Niagara’
- Helleborus ‘Anna’s Red’
- Escallonia Pink Elle ‘Lades’

In keeping with its ethos of ‘new growth, strong roots’ the company’s best practice apprenticeship scheme attracts new young people into horticulture every year, helping to lay the foundations for the future growth of John Woods Nurseries.
This commitment to the future of high quality horticulture chimes with John Lord’s personal journey. From an early age John developed a love of plants thanks to his grandmother Evelyn who taught him how to take cuttings. While studying for his Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture at Merrist Wood Agricultural College, John spent his sandwich year on placement at Notcutts Nurseries. He later became their first management trainee after leaving college.
John progressed through the business to become Managing Director of nursery division on 2006. In August 2007 he completed the buyout of Notcutts Nurseries with a colleague and John Woods Nurseries was incorporated.
