14 - 22 February 2015

The finale of this year’s JORVIK Viking Festival at the Eye of York will see an epic ‘reboot’ of Norse mythology, with a cast of warriors, giants and gods bringing the Norse legends to life,  exploring the creation of the Viking world, the rise of the Gods and the epic First Battle

“We knew that staging the Viking apocalypse in 2014 would give us a tough act to follow this year – particularly as very little in Norse mythology explores what happens when the world is reborn, so we are following Hollywood’s lead and rebooting the legends, exploring the earliest origins of Viking lore.  From the creation of the Viking world to the epic battles which saw the gods – including the mighty Odin rise to power, it promises to be a spectacular show,” comments Festival director, Danielle Daglan.  “This isn’t just the story of the world being created, but the tale of the first ever Viking battle, with a host of new characters from Norse mythology alongside our old favourites.”

Details of the event itself are being kept firmly under wraps, but those looking for a spectacle should not be disappointed!  The storytelling will include the creation of the Viking world, the rise of the Norse gods and the battle between two warring races, the Aesir and the Vanir, depicted by over 200 warriors facing each other on the battlefield.  As usual, spine-tingling music and blazing pyrotechnics will add to the atmosphere for the family-friendly evening event.

The Brave New World finale event will be the culmination of the 31st JORVIK Viking Festival, and indeed, one of the busiest days of the Festival when the Strongest Viking, and winners of the ‘Best Beard’ competition will also be crowned.

Tickets for the finale event cost £12 for adults, and £9.50 for concessions, with family tickets available for £36 (family of four) or £45 (family of five), and can be booked online at www.jorvik-viking-festival.co.uk  Those wishing to attend are advised to book early, as the event often sells out in advance with no tickets available on the day itself.
