Jula AB reports a record-breaking start to the year.

Sales have increased by over half a billion SEK up to the end of May.

"Despite a continued uncertain world, we are seeing a clear increase in customer influx. We are well equipped for the summer high season," says Johan Sjöhagra, CEO of Jula AB.

Jula has started the year very strongly and sales have increased by over half a billion SEK compared to the same period last year. At the same time, more customers than before have chosen to shop at Jula.

Defying the troubled world

Jula's growth comes at a time when many consumers are restrained with their spending.

"We see continued strong interest from our customers. Our focus on the right range at the right price means that we stand strong even in a more challenging market. It is clear that we offer a wide and affordable range for home fixes, gardens and seasonal products that are perceived as particularly relevant in the current economic situation," says Johan Sjöhagra.

Jula is seeing both increased customer traffic and strengthened sales, which is particularly positive in a continued uncertain world. The company is strong, not least thanks to Jula Club, which now has over five million members and continues to grow. The member base is an important engine in sales development and contributes to the strong start to the year.

Extension for growth

To meet the increased demand and enable continued growth, Jula is investing in its logistics. The already huge distribution centre in Skara is now being expanded by an additional 46,000 square metres, which means that the total warehouse area will exceed 225,000 square metres. The investment strengthens Jula's long-term competitiveness and creates the conditions for a continued pace of expansion with around 20 new department stores per year.

Strong summer

Ahead of the summer, Jula is particularly strong. The range is adapted for the season with products for gardening, painting, cooling and workwear, among other things, areas where demand is traditionally highest.

"The summer is our most important sales period and we are going into it with great confidence. We have a strong offer for everyone who wants to fix things at home, and we hope to be able to continue the positive development despite an uncertain world," says Johan Sjöhagra.

With a clear position as one of the Nordic region's leading low-price players, Jula continues to strengthen its offering and its presence in the market.

Company information

The owner of the Jula Holding Group is Karl-Johan Blank. Karl-Johan started and built up the Jula Holding Group together with his father Lars-Göran Blank. Karl-Johan has been the sole owner of the group since 2014.

Karl-Johan has been involved from the start when his parents Lars-Göran and Irene Blank founded Jula Industri AB in 1979 on the farm Jultorp. In 1984, the family, then with Karl-Johan as co-owner, started Jula Postorder AB (now Jula AB). The focus was on an ever-growing mail-order catalogue with purchases directly from manufacturers at low prices. They also built the first Jula department store with warehouses in Skara in 1985. Since 1991, father and son owned the company in equal parts jointly when they bought out the other family members and formed Jula Holding AB, at the same time as an increasing investment in the establishment of more and larger department stores.

Since the early 2000s, Karl-Johan has been the driving force and expanded the department store chain Jula in several countries and expanded the group with several properties and other businesses. As Lars-Göran gradually wanted to focus more on his private business and investments, he transferred some of his shares in the Jula Holding Group to Karl-Johan. Karl-Johan financed the purchase of Lars-Göran's shares with borrowed capital and dividends from Jula. When his father Lars-Göran passed away in 2014, he owned 35% and Karl-Johan 65% of the shares. In connection with the distribution of the inheritance, Karl-Johan acquired the remaining part of the shares and has since been the sole owner of the Jula Holding Group.
