ESFI to launch groundbreaking new program at RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition

Arlington, VA – The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) today announced the launch of How Do You Know?, a new workplace electrical safety awareness program developed to help employers answer the question, “How do you know if your workplace is properly protected from electrical hazards?” The ground-breaking program was unveiled at the RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition taking place April 15-18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Available for free on ESFI’s website, The How Do You Know? program elements include the How Do You Know? Video Series and the Electrical Safety Self-Assessment tool. The video series features short video modules that reinforce the importance of electrical safety programs and compliance with standards and regulations, while demonstrating how safe electrical practices are vital to the entire workplace. The chapters in the series include:

  • How Do You Know?, which provides an introduction to the problem of occupational electrical injuries and fatalities
  • What Does Electrical Safety Mean to You?, a video explaining the roles of OSHA and NFPA70E as they relate to electrical safety
  • Perspectives on Electrical Safety, three videos which provide personal perspectives on electrical safety from the viewpoints of a manager, a safety professional and an employee
  • This is How You Know, which introduces the Electrical Safety Self-Assessment online tool

The Electrical Safety Self-Assessment is a resource to help safety professionals review and analyze their company’s electrical safety practices related to facilities, personnel, and procedures. The online tool guides users through a series of questions that will help identify areas that may require further examination or improvement to ensure employee safety.

“Workplace electrical incidents result in nearly 300 deaths and over 3,500 injuries in the United States each year,” said ESFI President, Brett Brenner. “A comprehensive, effective electrical safety program is the key to keeping people safe on the job. The How Do You Know? program resources, developed in collaboration with industry experts, were designed to help companies achieve that.”

ESFI will be at Booth 1956 throughout the RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition, and will be distributing copies of the How Do You Know? Video Series and other free electrical safety resources.   For more information on ESFI and the How Do You Know? program visit www.electrical-safety.org.
