ESFI Names Schneider Electric as Recipient of 2012 Safety Award for Excellence
Arlington, VA—The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has named Schneider Electric as the recipient of the 2012 Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE), for its efforts in fighting counterfeit electrical products. The SAFE Award recognizes a company, nonprofit association or other industry-related organization for active and sustained efforts in support of ESFI’s mission to reduce electrically-related fatalities, injuries and property loss.
Chris Curtis, North American CEO, accepted the honor on behalf of Schneider Electric during the National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s 2012 Illuminations Dinner at Turnberry Isle Miami in Aventura, Florida on November 10, 2012.
“Schneider Electric has a long-standing reputation as a leader in safety,” stated ESFI president Brett Brenner. “Their dedication to ESFI’s mission of electrical safety is evidenced by the aggressive actions they have undertaken to combat counterfeit electrical products, a serious and growing threat to public safety.”
In December 2011, Schneider Electric launched the first report and reward program of its kind in the electrical industry. The Report and Reward program provides incentives for counterfeit product information in the U.S. in an effort to ensure the safety of customers and the reliability and integrity of Schneider Electric’s brands, while raising awareness of the critical safety concerns associated with counterfeit products.
Schneider Electric is an industry leader in anti-counterfeiting initiatives with a multi-faceted effort that has, to date, kept more than 250,000 potentially hazardous counterfeit goods out of the marketplace and included filing 13 civil lawsuits against 40 companies involved in the manufacture, importation & distribution of counterfeit electrical products. In addition, Schneider Electric conducts international investigations and raids, monitors the internet to identify counterfeiters and remove their listings, sponsors international anti-counterfeiting conferences and works with Federal authorities on criminal investigations.
“Schneider Electric has also been extremely supportive of ESFI’s new Operation: ACT anti-counterfeiting program, a collaborative industry-wide effort that is focused on health and safety,” noted Brenner. “Backing from key industry stakeholders like Schneider Electric is crucial to the long-term success of Operation: ACT.”
“Schneider Electric is committed to eliminating counterfeits from the marketplace, but we realize that this problem cannot be solved by a single company,” said Chris Curtis, North American CEO of Schneider Electric. “We are proud to be working with ESFI on Operation: ACT, which brings the entire electrical supply chain together for a unified, sustainable program to fight counterfeits.”
Past recipients of the ESFI Safety Award for Excellence are: WESCO Distribution, Inc., The Home Depot, and Mr. Electric.
