Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition Launches in Texas
Texas Business and Community Leaders Urge Action by Federal Lawmakers on Tax and Immigration Reform, Expanded Trade to Create Growth
The Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition, an alliance of businesses, local trade associations and concerned individuals committed to supporting a common sense, pro-growth agenda for America today announced its launch in Texas.
“One of our greatest priorities is tax reform,” said Mabrie Jackson, president and CEO of the North Texas Commission and a founding member of the Texas coalition. “The tax code is suffocating to smaller employers. We need Congress to promote pro-growth tax reform that benefits small businesses, which are the economic engine for Texas and the country.”
The group will support policies that expand trade opportunities and reform the country's tax and immigration systems. The group will educate federal lawmakers and state residents about the economic benefits of these policies and illustrate the consequences of Congressional inaction.
“Our leaders must shelve their partisan ways and jointly address solutions for boosting U.S. exports, because the more products we can make in Texas for export markets, the more jobs we can create here,” said Bill Hammond, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Business. “Congress must work together to pass legislation that will help open new markets to U.S. goods.”
“I joined the Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition because I have had enough of the broken politics emerging from Washington – politics that cast uncertainty across the economy,” said Teresa Burnett, executive director of the Monahans Chamber of Commerce in West. Texas. “A government that functions well eliminates uncertainty, fosters stability and builds confidence through policy that will promote economic growth.”
Members of the Steering Committee for Main Street Growth & Opportunity Texas include Mabrie Jackson, president and CEO of the North Texas Commission; Bill Hammond, president and CEO Texas Association of Business; State Senator John Montford; Tony Bennett, president of the Texas Association of Manufacturers; and Teresa Burnett, executive director of the Monahans Chamber of Commerce.
