Report this content

With guaranteed sunshine all year round and only a four-flight away, Cyprus continues to be an affordable favourite for British families wanting to enjoy a relaxing break in the sun without breaking the bank. Along with hotels geared-up to entertain children of all ages and activities and fun days out available across the island, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets:

BABY- AND CHILD- FRIENDLY HOTELS:

Baby-go-lightly at the Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills Resort

Overlooking Paphos Bay and close to the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, the InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort is the perfect enclave for a stress-free break. Offering a ‘Baby Go Lightly’ scheme where parents can pre-order all baby essentials – from bottle sterilisers, nappies through to pushchairs, the hotel ensures parents can kick-back and free-up for their luggage allowance for the more important holiday essentials.

Amathus Holidays (0844 770 8092, www.amathusholidays.co.uk) offers a week at the Intercontinental  Aphrodite Hills in April from £829pp. Price includes flights with Aegean Airlines, private transfers and B&B.

Water baby nirvana at the Coral Beach Hotel and Resort

Conveniently located on Coral Bay, the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort makes a great base for water babes wishing to follow in the wake of the GB Olympic swimming squad who've trained here. Vast pool aside (closed to visitors when athletes are in residence; a child-friendly pool for general use is set on the seafront of the hotel), there's a busy entertainment schedule for young and old, with kids' clubs, an arts and crafts centre and a spa – plus with generous servings at meal time, it will ensure you will never go hungry no matter how many laps you do.

The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort offers a week in June from €675pp (www.coral.com.cy)

FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES

Donkey Safaris

If you want to do something different during your stay in Cyprus, then a donkey safari may just fit the bill. Starting off in an old 1950s Bedford village bus, you will be transported to the Donkey Farm a few kilometres outside of Paphos for a hearty traditional Cypriot brunch, with local delicacies including halloumi, olives, soutzoukos (an unusual tubular shaped concoction made of grape syrup and almonds) and oven-baked bread. After your repast, you will enjoy a leisurely donkey ride through picturesque orange groves and quaint countryside before arriving at an abandoned 14th century monastery, Panayia tou Sindi, which has been restored by UNESCO. Once back at the farm, a typical BBQ meal at its restaurant will await you along with refreshments including the local firewater, Zivania and a range of wines for the adults. A range of local tour operators offer daily excursions, with average prices of €74 per adult and €38 per child

Paphos Zoo (www.pafoszoo.com)

Ideal for all the family, a visit to the Paphos Zoo (Bird & Animal Park) makes for a great day out away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. Housing one of Europe’s largest bird collections along with deer, antelopes, gazelles, raccoons, giraffes, reptiles, giant tortoises, monkeys, lions and elephants, Paphos Zoo sits within acres of verdant gardens along with lakes and waterfalls. A daily Parrot & Owl show takes place in its amphitheatre and is a highlight for all children. Open all year round. Prices: €15.50 per adult & €8.50 per child

Aphrodite Water Park, Paphos (www.aphroditewaterpark.com)

Set within acres of natural landscaped grounds on the outskirts of Paphos, the water park offers 26 different rides as well as a range of attractions to keep children occupied until dark. Open from 1 May to 31 October; prices – adults (€29) and children (€16)

WaterWorld Water Park, Ayia Napa (www.waterworldwaterpark.com)

The award-winning Waterworld is Europe’s largest Greek-themed waterpark and features a fantastic range of custom-built, unique rides. Suitable for ages 3 and over.

Open from 1 April to 31 October (November weather permitting); prices – children 3-12 years old (€20) adults and children over 13 (€35).
