The Travel Foundation and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) have worked in collaboration to develop a new Insider Guide to Cyprus.   Packed with tips to help holidaymakers have a unique stay on the popular island, the guide also provides engaging and original ideas on how visitors can play their part in helping local communities to earn a living from tourism and how to protect the environment.

The release of the new Insider Guide coincides with the end of Make Holidays Greener Month, the Travel Foundation’s awareness raising campaign, sponsored by the CTO for 2013. Including recommendations from dining in local taverns on wholesome and seasonal produce, to days out at ancient Greco-Roman amphitheatres such as Kourion, the guide will help holidaymakers make the most of their holiday.

It’s a useful tool for agents selling Cyprus. It can be printed and given to client’s who’ve booked a holiday to the island.  Agents can use it as a reference tool for tips to give to those considering holiday there. It can be downloaded for free here: www.thetravelfoundation.org.uk/images/media/Insider_Guide_to_Cyprus_2013.pdf

The Insider Guide to Cyprus is the first in what will become a revamped series of destination Insider Guides from the Foundation.

Ben Lynam, head of communications at the Travel Foundation, said: ‘The Insider Guides are a great free resource for agents looking to give customers extra holiday tips to help them explore while away, and will help to highlight what’s really special in the destination. All of our guides are available to download for free from our website, just search for ‘Communications Tool’ on the homepage.’

This year, Make Holidays Greener month has involved companies of all sizes within the industry, trained over 1000 staff in travel and helped firms to engage their customers with greener holidays. Following the campaign, the Foundation and the CTO will continue to work on a range of projects under the Destination Partnership that was signed in 2010.

Mr. Rossides, Director of the CTO in the UK, said: “Responsible tourism is high on the agenda for the CTO  - ultimately we would like our tourism practices on sustainability to stand out as a unique example of best practice in responsible tourism.  The new Destination Guide from the Travel Foundation provides some new and original ideas for enjoying our island responsibly, as well as some very simple suggestions for making a difference during your visit.  Happy reading!”
