Karlshamns forms strategic alliance with Quaker Chemical Karlshamns subsidiary Binol AB signs cooperation agreement with Quaker Chemical, effective 1 March 2004. The agreement formalises the two companies' cooperation on the Nordic as well as on the global market. This is in line with joint ambitions to offer the Nordic market a wider product range and a higher service degree as well as distributing Binol's high performing vegetable based lubricants globally. For the Nordic region, both companies' products will be marketed under their respective brands also in the future. The purpose of the global alliance is to market Binol's products on the global market under Quaker Chemical's brand name. "This alliance is formed entirely in line with our strategy, and serves to further consolidate Binol's position as number one on the world market for vegetable technical oils" says Magnus Jörsmo, President of Binol. At the turn of the year Binol acquired the technical oils operations from Raisio Chemicals, and in 2003 the technical oils division of Aarhus United was added to Binol's portfolio. Binol is a company in the Karlshamns Group, with responsibility for the development, manufacturing and marketing of the Group's eco-friendly technical oils. In 2002, Karlshamns turnover amounted to SEK 3,200 million. The company employs some 750 persons, of whom around 600 in Karlshamn, Sweden. Karlshamns is Scandinavia's largest producer of vegetable oils and fats, primarily for the food industry. Other important business segments are technical products, feed raw materials and speciality raw materials for the chemico-technical industry.
