Business Finland has awarded a EUR 2.6 million grant to Keliber for the development of lithium chemical production
Business Finland has granted maximum of € 2.6 million for the development of the Keliber (“company”) lithium project. Full redemption of the grant requires the company to implement a comprehensive development plan and to meet the financial conditions. The development and innovation work focus on to contribute that the company's process is sustainable and the end product reaches the quality standards set by the customers. The project covers the period 3 June, 2019 – 31 August, 2022.
The project is part of the first pan-European battery research and innovation project (IPCEI), which aims at building a sustainable, innovative and competitive battery ecosystem in Europe. On December 9, 2019, the European Commission approved a € 3.2 billion public grant from seven Member States for battery research and innovation projects. The project involves Belgium, Italy, Poland, France, Sweden, Germany and Finland and a total of 17 companies, including 4 from Finland. IPCEI is an abbreviation of Important Project of Common European Interest.
