Environmental Impact Assessment procedure for lithium chemical plant completed – Keliber moves on to the permitting phase

Keliber has received a reasoned conclusion from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Southern Ostrobothnia (ELY Centre), regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the lithium chemical plant to be located in the Kokkola Industrial Park.

The ELY Centre states that the EIA report meets the content requirements set for the EIA report in the EIA legislation and has been treated as required by the EIA Act. In its conclusion, the ELY Centre states that, based on the assessment made, the project will not have significant environmental impacts. However, the ELY Centre considers that the further planning of the project should take into account, inter alia, the adequacy of the storage and recovery capacity of the analcime sand (sidestream to be used in a circular economy) at all stages of the operation.

Keliber will carefully consider the ELY Centre's reasoned conclusion and all comments and clarifications mentioned therein will be taken into account in the further planning of the project and in the environmental permitting phase of the lithium chemical plant.

"We are very pleased with the proceedings of the ELY Centre, Envineer Oy and others engaged in this EIA process. We would like to thank everyone involved for the smooth cooperation. We are happy that the target schedule for the EIA process was met to and we can now move to the permitting phase for our lithium chemical plant according to the schedule,” says Hannu Hautala, CEO of Keliber.
