On October 20, 2021, the American Association of Railroads (AAR) recognized Kemira with the Grand Slam Award for 2020. Award winners are exemplary shippers of hazardous materials and Kemira was singled out as the only company to have won this award for six consecutive years.

“In 2020, we once again demonstrated our commitment to safety. In a year of challenges, we were still able to load, secure and ship over 7,900 hazardous material railcars from our Kemira sites in North America and achieve zero non-accident releases”, says Lucy Pouliot, Senior Manager, Rail Logistics. “To have achieved this now for six straight years is a record we can be very proud of! As always, it is our people behind the scenes who are responsible for loading and securing railcars that make this recognition possible. Everyone truly embraces safety as a part of our Kemira culture.”

The AAR Grand Slam award is presented annually to companies, like Kemira, who have been recognized by at least four Class 1 railroads and have had zero non-accident releases in the previous calendar year. In 2020, Kemira was also one of only three companies to be recognized by CSX for 10 years as a CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award winner.
