Fertiliser innovations meeting rising food demand

The latest developments in fertiliser technology, and how it can be used to meet global demand for food will be one of the themes at CropWorld Global 2011, the international agricultural conference to be held in London next month.

One of the speakers will be Dr Brian Wade, Sustainability Lead at Agrotain International, who will be talking about how advances in nitrogen fertiliser technologies are boosting crop productivity as well as reducing GHG emissions.

Dr Kevin Moran, of Yara (UK) and Convenor of the IFA/IPNI ‘Fertiliser Use and Human Health’ Initiative, will be evaluating the role of crop nutrients in improving human health, and an overview of the fertiliser market in Brazil will be given by David Roquetti Filho, Executive Director of ANDA (Assocaicao Nacional para Difusao de Adubos).

The three-day conference, being held at ExCeL, London from 31stOctober to 2ndNovember, will be addressed by experts from around the world. The event will embrace all aspects of crop production, and will focus on how food producers will face the problems caused by a growing world population and the mounting pressures on its natural resources. One of the main challenges is how food production will have to increase by more than 50% over the next 19 years.

The Rt Hon Jim Paice, the UK’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Food, will be giving a key note address, and will be joined by speakers from around the world from countries including Australia, India, Kenya and the United States.

Clare King, CropWorld Event Director, said: “The issue of sustainable crop production to meet a growing demand for food is one of the most important challenges we face in the world today. This conference is a unique opportunity to bring together a group of international experts at the highest level to discuss, debate and inform those attending – and a wider global audience – how agriculture is going to meet the increased demands which will be placed on it.”
