Out in the field with IMI Awards and CLAAS

In  August 2012 CLAAS, the harvesting specialists, invited IMI Awards, a specialist awarding body, to two days of training at their Suffolk HQ. The aim of the two-day event was to ensure that the IMI Awards qualifications development and external verification teams are up-to-date with current trends and technologies in the land-based sector.

Speaking after the event John Palmer, Training and Development Manager at CLAAS, said “CLAAS UK and the land-based sector as a whole have a proactive approach to the need for technical rigour in our Apprentice programmes. The land-based sector has not yet been able to agree on a preferred awarding body or qualification route that collectively satisfies our varied requirements. All the (IMI Awards) guys came with an open mind and, significantly to us, with some current technical credibility and understanding too. Based on our current dealings with IMI Awards we're hopeful that there's now a strong chance to cement the majority of our industry under one awarding body.”

This two-day training event supplements the new range of Level 2 and Level 3 land-based engineering qualifications that were launched by IMI Awards in July 2012. Units within the qualifications cover the service and repair of engines, harvesting and processing equipment and pneumatic systems and components.

Rob Gray, Qualifications Development Manager at IMI Awards, commented “Everyone who attended (the event) gained a great deal from the experience. We look forward to working even more closely with the network of centres, and the

land-based industry, to develop and offer the qualifications that the land-based engineering industry wants”.
