The Tiptree World Bread Awards is a unique new set of awards which not only celebrate the skill of British bread-making at its most diverse and inspiring, but also seek to encourage and foster the art of baking both now and for the future generation. The competition opened on 1 January 2013 www.worldbreadawards.com

The Tiptree World Bread Awards is open to all UK and British-based bakers - artisan bread makers, small high street bakers and home bread-makers. There is also a category for child bakers sponsored by Grainchain.com, which educates children about healthy eating and the growing and use of wheat.

Bread is a world food and baking it is a huge undertaking – 12 million loaves are sold every day in the UK. Along with home-baking, the phenomenon of the artisan bakery has really taken off in the last decade. The increased variety of bread and enormous interest in how it is made in the UK truly deserves to be applauded.

We are delighted that Tiptree preserves from Wilkin & Sons www.tiptree.com will be headline sponsor and we’re linking with a charity too, Farming and Countryside Education, which works to educate children about food and its provenance.

There are 10 categories of bread types, with the judging taking place at the Worshipful Company of Bakers on Wednesday 18 September 2013 and an Awards evening harvest supper on Tuesday 8 October 2013 at St John’s Hyde Park.
