World Press Photo 2022, an Internationally Acclaimed Photography Exhibition, Arrives in Vilnius
Press Photo 2022, the exhibition showcasing award-winning photos of the press photography competition, opened in Vilnius, Lithuania, on October 29. The 65th annual photography competition received over 65,000 submissions this year and was entered by more than 4,000 photographers from 130 countries.
The exhibition visitors are going to see more than 50 brilliant works from all over the world, representing stories most frequently discussed in the media.
This year's World Press Photo of the Year Award went to visual journalist Amber Bracken. Her picture for a prestigious news site, The New York Times, commemorates and sheds light on a mass children’s grave found at a residential school in Canada.
Besides this picture, World Press Photo exhibits Saving Forests With Fire by Matthew Abbot, Amazonian Dystopia by Lalo de Almeida, Blood is a Seed by Isadora Romero, and other visual stories by globally acclaimed photojournalists.
The exhibition offers a unique and delicate glance at the most shocking stories of 2021 – from fires in Greece sparked by the climate crisis to COVID-19 reactions across the globe.
“This exhibition tackles the most important events, simultaneously delivering the highest honor and appreciation for photographers. I am proud that 15min Group and our partners can pay attention to quality, impactful photography capable of changing the world. Our country still cannot see the differences between real media and its cheap tabloid imitations. We want to try and be a part of the former – the one that is virtuous, strong, the one that creates a change and leads the way,” says Tomas Balžekas, CEO of 15min Group, one of the largest media groups in Lithuania and the main initiator of this exhibition.
The yearly traveling exhibition will stop in Vilnius this time, at Kilo Health’s headquarters, located at Aludarių str. 3. Kilo Health is a healthtech group with over 15+ global digital health products.
“We are happy that our new quarters have been selected for the exhibition. Kilo Health loves the unconventional. That is why our new space is extraordinary. We reside on Aludarių (eng. “beer brewers”) street, and the street name is not random. This was actually a beer brewery some time ago. Its construction began in 1860, and with high ceilings, spacious rooms, and halls, this space is perfect for an exhibition. I am convinced that my colleagues will be as excited to learn about these critical world events as all other exhibition visitors,” says Ilona Bernotaitė, Chief People Officer at Kilo Health.
The exhibition will be open for visitors on Mondays and Fridays from 16:00 to 20:00 (4 PM to 8 PM) and on weekends from 10:00 to 18:00 (10 AM to 6 PM). Available from October 29 to November 20, 2022.
