Los Angeles, CA -- April 19, 2012 …In prelude to the opening day for the 2012 Pasadena Showcase House of Design for the Arts (www.pasadenashowcase.org), Adrienne Alpert of ABC-7 Eyewitness News interviewed Kristi Nelson of KMNelson Design, LLC (www.kmnelsondesign.com) on “the very best of design” and what it takes to make over a mansion (http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=8614554).

Much like Kristi Nelson’s company logo—Inspired Design and Timeless Style, Alpert reported on how the very best in building and design is timeless. In her special report of the La Canada Flintridge home built in 1927 for a family that traced its roots to colonial times--a Spanish-style retreat known as Casa de las Puertas, or "House of the Doors," Alpert noted the best design ideas represented in the house and previewed what the hundreds of visitors the showcase house would experience on opening day.

A visual pan of The Lady’s Study and Alpert’s interview with Kristi Nelson were selected to anchor the evening news segment.

According to the report, what was formerly a “dark and dreary” office (with bulky built-in cabinetry and bare walls), is “now light and bright” due to Kristi Nelson’s design transformation. To create this sense of airiness, space and volume, Nelson used soft, airy colors and reflective finishes that balance strong heat and light. The redesigned lady’s study is now a streamlined and serene personal retreat for working and relaxing.

"You want visitors to come in and just go, 'Wow!' and have that moment; and not sort of think about the before-and-after," said designer Kristi Nelson. "Just, 'This is a beautiful room and I want to have this room.'"

Substituting a marble table and an exquisite, Italian Renaissance-inspired chair for the utilitarian-but-cumbersome office desk and chair is just one example of the many “best of design” takeaway ideas expressed in The Lady’s Study. Notable design elements include beautiful fabrics inspired by runway fashion; photography used as art and collected porcelains.
