NBC4’s OPEN HOUSE Features Kristi Nelson’s Tips on Color, Texture and Design Ingenuity
Designer Takes you Behind the Gates of a San Juan Capistrano Renovation
Los Angeles, CA—December 20, 2012 … NBC’s hit design show OPEN HOUSE featured Kristi Nelson sharing design tips throughout several rooms of a San Juan Capistrano renovation project by KMNelson Design, LLC, on Saturday, December 15, 2012. In this Designer Living episode (http://www.nbclosangeles.com/blogs/open-house/OHNAT-5190-B-DL-Kristi-Nelson_New-York.html), Nelson takes viewers inside what OPEN HOUSE calls “a beautiful home” to show how high impact style can be accomplished even in the most challenging project.
Nelson and her team were faced with a floor-to-ceiling renovation of a cold, Mediterranean style property with awkwardly shaped rooms, dated architectural details, and a colorless interior. By adding a rich jewel-toned color palette and furnishings with clean lines, KMNelson Design, LLC transformed a once sterile environment into a warm, inviting contemporary family home.
One tip shared by the designer was her choice to highlight and mirror the unique octagonal shape of the master bathroom. By pulling the octagonal shape into the shower design and repeating this shape in a custom tile pattern on the floor, KMNelson Design, LLC created a very special and original aspect of the master suite.
“I turn to color and texture solutions first,” says designer Kristi Nelson. “But sometimes it’s about bringing out or enhancing the uniqueness of an oddity within the home, such as an octagonal shaped room; especially when you’re dealing with interior restrictions,” adds Nelson.
Complete renovations for the project included kitchen reconstruction, several custom built-ins, commissioned and original artworks by contemporary artists, as well as custom finishes, tile work and cabinetry.
