KMT Cutting Systems breaks into a new market

KMT’s subsidiary, KMT Cutting Systems AB, continues to expand its market by winning its first order from the nuclear power industry. The order, which amounts to SEK 3.5M, is for a robotised cleaning system for containers. It has been placed by the British nuclear power company, British Nuclear Group. The delivery will be made during the first quarter of 2006.

”The order from British Nuclear Group is of significant strategic importance for us as, by winning it, we are entering a new market sector,” says Ulf Andersson, project manager at KMT Cutting Systems. The machine currently under construction for British Nuclear Group has been specially developed to clean the company’s containers of paint before they are scrapped and finally stored. The containers have been used for storing nuclear fuel rods and are, therefore, contaminated. With KMT’s robotised cleaning system, the number of cleaned containers which can be cleaned per day is doubled while the need for people to work near radiation contaminated environments can be reduced. ”The fact that British Nuclear Group chose KMT Cutting Systems as the supplier is because they sought a dependable product, both operationally and in production terms, and one which could fulfil their own very strict specification. Although the cleaning process is relatively new for us, we have nearly 15 years combined experience of developing and building advanced robot systems. The fact that we could also guarantee a rapid delivery of a specially-adapted system was an influencing factor.” says Ulf Andersson.
