Today KMT rolls out the Nano Grinder, its revolutionary new machine concept for precision grinding, at Europe’s largest machine fair in Hanover. The machine is only one fifth of the size of a traditionally constructed one and enables productivity improvements of up to 50 per cent. With this new unique technology, KMT is also taking a leap forward in precision, flexibility and reliability.

“The machine is nothing less than a revolutionary result of KMT’s innovation. We are, therefore, extremely proud that we are able to offer our customers the benefits of this leading-edge technology. At the same time, we can extend our market potential as the Nano grinder opens up new areas of application for us”, says KMT President and CEO Lars Bergström. The new machine, which will be marketed by KMT’s subsidiaries, Lidköping Machine Tools and UVA, has a uniquely efficient grinding movement that represents a new technology platform for future machine construction. The Nano Grinder’s compact construction also means that the machine can be installed in a significantly smaller space or can be more easily accommodated in the end customer’s premises. This, in turn, can help to avoid bottlenecks in existing production lines. “The development of the machine has been underway for 10 years and the first prototype was built five years ago. It has been tested with customers from the beginning of 2004. As a result, we are not launching a prototype but are already discussing tangible projects with customers,” says Johan Westberg, President of Lidköping Machine Tools. “With the new construction, we will firstly and foremostly contribute to increasing our customers’ productivity. We can also achieve improved precision in the manufacturing of their end products and, not least, contribute to a better working environment. In addition, our service will be a fully-integrated part of our offer and will lead to world class reliability,” says Johan Westberg. The comprehensive aftermarket programme that has been developed for the new machine platform includes everything from expendable supplies such as grinding tools, spare parts and KMT-developed vertical grinding spindles to preventative maintenance, service and repairs.
