Winner of best power-loss story will receive a KOHLER standby generator from FLASH

KOHLER, Wis. – June 4, 2013 – Kohler® Generators, a premium manufacturer and marketer of world-class generators and automatic transfer switches, welcomes homeowners to share their power-loss stories for a chance to win a KOHLER standby generator and automatic transfer switch. Participants can enter The Federal Alliance of Safe Homes’ (FLASH) fourth annual Great Hurricane Blowout sweepstakes at http://www.greathurricaneblowout.org/generator.php by Nov. 30, 2013.

“For the past four years, Kohler Generators has partnered with FLASH on the Great Hurricane Blowout, an initiative to educate families about preparing for hurricanes and the role standby power plays in being ready for the next big storm,” said Melanie Tydrich, senior channel manager of residential generator products at Kohler Co. “Homeowners with a compelling power loss story, or reason why they need a generator, are invited to enter the sweepstakes to win a KOHLER standby generator.”

After typing in their name, address, birth date, email and phone number, potential winners are asked to answer, in 25 words or less, how a standby generator would help their family. Complete contest rules can be found at http://www.greathurricaneblowout.org/docs/GreatHurricaneBlowoutSweepstakesRules.pdf.

The sweepstakes prize is a 20-kilowatt (model 20RESAL) KOHLER standby generator and transfer switch, which is the company’s most popular residential unit. The standby generator is fully automatic and permanently installed outside with a direct connection to a home’s electrical system, similar to a central air-conditioning unit. It runs on propane or natural gas and is connected to the home’s fuel lines, meaning the homeowner does not have to be physically present to start up the generator and fuel it.

The standby generator works in tandem with an automatic transfer switch that continuously monitors utility power. When power is lost from the utility, the switch automatically transfers the electrical load to the standby generator. The transfer of power to the standby generator usually takes 10 seconds or less.

The 20-kilowatt KOHLER standby generator can power critical and sophisticated appliances and systems in a home, including lights, heating/cooling systems, refrigerators, sump pumps, security systems, electronics and more. Depending on the size, a standby generator can power an entire home or a few key devices like a set of lights, a refrigerator and/or an air-conditioning unit.
