KONE recognized as Supplier Engagement Leader by CDP and ranked 55th on Clean200 list
KONE Corporation, press release, March 13, 2024
KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has been awarded a position on the CDP 2023 Supplier Engagement Rating Leaderboard. The recognition follows CDP’s 2023 global score release, with KONE acknowledged on the prestigious Climate ‘A list’. In addition, as the only elevator and escalator company, KONE has been ranked in 55th place on the Corporate Knights 2024 Clean200 list for publicly traded companies, which are leading clean economy solutions.
Following the CDP Climate 2023 global score release, companies responding to the full version of the climate change questionnaire also receive a Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). The assessment is based on performance for governance, targets, Scope 3 emissions and value chain engagement. The companies with the best SER are named Supplier Engagement Leaders. KONE is among the highest-performing 450 companies on the SER Leaderboard.
“We are delighted to be recognized as one of the leaders in supplier engagement in tackling climate change. I’m proud of our capability to transparently reduce and report the emissions of our products over their lifecycle in partnership with our suppliers”, says Mikko Korte, Executive Vice President, Supply Chain. “Our efforts are also demonstrated in our results. In 2022, our Scope 3 emissions per products ordered decreased by 4.7% compared to 2021 and by 4.3% compared to the 2018 baseline.”
KONE’s continued performance in driving sustainability has also been recognized on a recent Clean200 ranking. Released by Corporate Knights and California-based shareholder advocates As You Sow, the Clean200 list ranks publicly traded companies that are leading clean economy solutions and earning the most from sustainable sources. In the 2024 Clean200 ranking, KONE reached 55th place and is the only elevator and escalator company on the list.
Being a leader in sustainability has long been a strategic target for KONE. In 2020, KONE was the first company in the elevator and escalator industry to set ambitious climate targets, validated against the latest climate science by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
With its climate pledge, KONE is committed to a 50% reduction in emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030, compared to a 2018 baseline and pledged to have carbon neutral operations by 2030. KONE also targets a 40% reduction in emissions related to its products’ materials and lifetime energy consumption (Scope 3), relative to products ordered, by 2030.
