Press release, December 13, 2022

KONE has been recognized for leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its annual ‘A List’. KONE has disclosed through CDP since 2009 and has received a leadership score of A or A- for climate change for ten consecutive years.

Based on data reported through CDP’s 2022 Climate Change questionnaire, KONE is one of a small number of companies that achieved an ‘A’ out of nearly 15,000 companies scored.

Being a leader in sustainability has long been a strategic target for KONE. The company has a key role in making urbanization more sustainable and continues to take strong actions together with its customers, partners, and suppliers, to develop sustainable business practices for the long term. For example, KONE has launched carbon-neutral maintenance, KONE Care™ DX, and a carbon compensation option for its KONE DX elevators.  KONE targets a 40% reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions related to the materials and lifetime energy use of our products and is committed to a 50% cut in the emissions from our own operations. KONE pledges to have carbon-neutral operations by 2030. In addition, KONE aims to achieve carbon-neutral manufacturing by 2024.

"We are extremely proud of our newest CDP A score. This is the 10th consecutive year for KONE reaching leadership level in the CDP (A- or A). More sustainable urbanization and approaches that benefit the environment are what we all should strive for. “ says Hanna Uusitalo, Environmental Director at KONE. “As we all know we have a long way to go and we all need to urgently and continuously improve our environmental excellence together with our suppliers and partners."

CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions.

A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets
