KONE to equip Region Västmanland’s new emergency hospital in Västerås, Sweden
KONE Corporation, press release, 12 December 2024
KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to provide a suite of People Flow® solutions for Region Västmanland’s new emergency hospital in Västerås. Built by the Nordic construction company NCC, the new facilities are expected to help address the future healthcare needs of the local people.
Once inaugurated in 2029, the new emergency hospital complex will encompass about 75,000 square meters in Västerås. It will feature operating rooms, radiology, an emergency clinic, maternity facilities, intensive care unit, ward beds and clinics.
Tobias Holmqvist, Division Manager Large projects at NCC, says: “The installation process in hospitals is peculiar in that it demands careful coordination within tight construction timelines. KONE stands out as a partner who understands these complexities and supplies the appropriate equipment to support an efficient and operationally sound environment, even with high traffic volumes.”
“For doctors and patients to move effortlessly from one care facility to another, hospitals need reliable, high-performing equipment that supports an uninterrupted flow of people,” adds Nicolas Alchal, KONE Executive Vice President for Europe. “The urgency to transport both people and medical devices quickly throughout the hospital becomes even more critical during emergencies. Recognizing the delicate nature of this task, we’ve delivered many complex hospital projects before and are privileged to bring our expertise to the new hospital in Västerås.”
KONE’s order comprises 15 KONE MonoSpace700 DX machine room-less elevators, two KONE MiniSpace™ DX high-speed passenger elevators and three KONE TranSys™ DX freight and passenger elevators.
The planning phase for KONE’s installations is ongoing and the elevator solutions are expected to be tested and ready in 2028. The main developer is Västmanland region, and the main contractor is NCC Sverige AB. The architectural design was done by Link arkitektur AB in collaboration with Carlstedt arkitekter.
KONE booked the order in Q2 of 2024.
