KONE Corporation, press release, May 20, 2019
KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to deliver 169 escalators and elevators to the Red Line of Tel Aviv’s Light Rail Network. Planned to open in 2021, the Red Line is part of an ambitious mass transit system which is said to be the largest and the most complex of its kind ever executed in Israel.
Serving up to 80 million annual passengers, The Red Line will operate along 24km, 12km of it underground, and it will serve 34 stations. To smoothen the flow of passengers, KONE will deliver 106 KONE TransitMaster™ escalators and 63 KONE MonoSpace® elevators. Additionally, the contract includes 16 years of maintenance.
“The Red Line will pass through the most congested regions of the metropolitan area and it is set to change the lives of many in the greater Tel Aviv region. We’re proud to deliver our people flow solutions to this ambitious project and to improve the flow of urban life in Israel,” said Pierre Liautaud, Executive Vice President for KONE South Europe, Middle East and Africa.
NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd. is the company responsible for the design and construction of the mass transit system.
