SPRINGFIELD, OH – Konecranes, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of lifting technology, has recently become a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO project committee (PC) 283.

Accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and led by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the TAG was formed in order to develop an international occupational health and safety (OH&S) standard to keep workers around the world safe.

As part of their enduring commitment to worker safety, Konecranes will join the TAG representing the United States, advising on the development of a global ISO Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) standard. This standard aims to provide usable guidance for industries and governmental agencies around the world for improving worker safety.

The TAG will advise ANSI on voting positions relevant to the proposed OHSMS standard and will meet to discuss issues related to the standard’s development. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI accredits TAGs such as this one to develop and transmit U.S. positions on ISO technical activities. The TAG is headed by ASSE, which serves as administrator for the group to ISO PC 283.

After the recent tragic factory collapse in Bangladesh, which claimed 1,100 workers’ lives, along with numerous other factory worker fatalities throughout the world this year alone, this historic effort has the potential to drastically improve occupational health and safety management in countries around the world. Konecranes is proud to represent the United States as a part of such an important and impactful initiative.
